A high elastic bandage is a long piece of stretchable cloth used to place pressure around a strain or sprain. It’s also known as a tensor or compression bandage. Choosing the Right Size

- 6-inch elastic bandages are used around the thigh, torso, and chest.
- 3-inch to 4-inch bandages are fit for adult arms or legs.
- 2-inch bandages are appropriate for an adult’s fingers or a child’s arms or legs.
What You Should Understand About Using an Elastic Bandage
The elastic bandage should be snug but shouldn’t cut off your circulation. Check your fingers (if you’ve wrapped the bandage around the wrist) or the toes (if you’ve wrapped the bandage around the ankle or foot).
If you notice they’re turning blue or purplish, tingly or numb, or cool to touch, the bandage is too tight, and you need to loosen it. Also, you should relax the wrap before bedtime.
Another essential aspect to note is that elastic bandages don’t offer protection. For instance, if you have a wrapped ankle, have a brace to protect it if you have to put weight around it.
Furthermore, keep the bandage clean in between uses. Clean it with warm soapy water, rinse it and let it air dry.
